Lambda Literary Award Finalists

via Gay League:

The Lambda Literary Foundation, an organization whose mission is to celebrate LGBTQ literature, has announced the finalists for the 26th Lambda Literary Awards.  I am always interested to see who is up for each year's Lammy's (and add a few books to my to-read pile), but this year is particularly special because they have finally added a graphic novels category!

I love that Lambda that has decided to recognize LGBT graphic novels.  We've seen a couple of graphic novel nominees and winners in the past (No Straight Lines, Teleny and Camille, Tranposes), but having a category exclusively for such works will allow Lambda to recognize the hard work of many more creators.  Our other media award group, GLAAD, focuses almost exclusively on mainstream comics books from the big two (and Archie), so the expansion of Lambda will allow more room for recognizing works from alternative publishers and works by LGBT creators.

And the finalists are...

Artifice, by Alex Woolfson (author), Winona Nelson (Illustrator), AMW Comics

Calling Dr. Laura: A Graphic Memoir, Nicole J. Georges, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt

Duck! Second Chances, Tana Ford, Bang A Left

The Fifth Beatle: The Brian Epstein Story, Vivek J. Tiwary, Andrew C. Robinson, Kyle Baker, Steve Dutro, M Press

Artifice is the only nominee I have already read. It's a beautiful story that I find myself returning to multiple times. It's freely available as a webcomic on Woolfson's yaoi911 website, where he is also publishing a new superhero series, The Young Protectors.

The full list of finalists can be found at the Lambda website.
